The Michelin Stars Tour of Girona

The Michelin Stars Tour of Girona

Combining the best riding, luxury accommodation and Michelin Star Restaurants.
For the first time ever a cycling tour combines the best riding with the culinary experience of eating at a prestigious Michelin Star rated restaurant every night.

“The ultimate cycling and eating experience in Girona”

Enjoy great riding and try the finest cuisine in the Girona area, the Michelin Stars Tour is for you.
Over the years the cuisine of the region has been evolving, but it was with Ferran Adria and his Bulli restaurant that Catalan cuisine reached its peak. It planted the seed for many new chefs to continue the tradition and research-experimentation-technologies and delighting us with new gastronomic experiences.

El Bulli was rated #1 in the world for four straight years by Restaurant Magazine, the inspiration for a new generation of cooks. There are many Michelin starred restaurants to choose from in this region. The most notable is El Celler de Can Roca, rated the #1 restaurant in the world in 2013 and is currently #2. It will be a culinary fantasy to try the visions of different chefs each night.

Let us not forget the excellent riding on this tour! We will lead you on the most amazing roads and through medieval villages, the curving ride along the coast, and up the local climbs like els Angels, Rocacorba, Sant Hilari…where the pros train. All from the beautiful town of Girona where you will feel at home in your specially chosen four star hotel or luxury house.

What are Michelin star restaurants?

The MICHELIN Guide is much more than a directory of restaurants and hotels. Michelin Inspectors analyze restaurants and hotels throughout the year under a clandestine cloak. Their anonymity is fundamental to the inspection process that has been refined over more than 100 years. The limited number of restaurants chosen for the MICHELIN Guides are all highly recommended, but earning a star is seen as one of the highest honors in the industry.

What are the criteria for receiving Michelin Stars?
The star symbols judge not only what’s on the plate, but also the quality of products, the mastering of flavors and cooking, personality of the cuisine, value for the money and the consistency of what the restaurant offers to its customers throughout the year.

*One star indicates a very good restaurant in its category, offering cuisine prepared to a consistently high standard. A good place to stop on your journey.
** Two stars denote excellent cuisine, skillfully and carefully crafted dishes of outstanding quality. Worth a detour.
*** Three stars reward exceptional cuisine where diners eat extremely well, often superbly. Distinctive dishes are precisely executed, using superlative ingredients. Worth a special journey.

El Celler de Can Roca 3* may come to mind when you associate Girona and Michelin-starred restaurants. Run by three brothers, Joan – the chef, Josep- the sommelier, and the youngest, Jordi, the pastry chef. He was named ¨Best Pastry Chef¨ in the world at the 2014 Restaurant Magazine´s prestigious awards ceremony in England. In 2013, Can Roca was named the number 1 restaurant in the world. Exploding with fame and immediately a challenge to get a reservation.
While we cannot guarantee a reservation at El Celler, the reservation period is over a year in advance, we have many other options.

Carme Ruscalleda, the female chef with the most Michelin stars (7) between three restaurants. Along the Costa Brava is her hometown and her three star, Sant Pau Restaurant.

Since these are special dinners, you may opt to try some very fine wines. Therefore, the wines would not be included in the price of the tour and you may order as you like. As we do custom tours, we could decide together how many and which restaurants would be included. We will take care of the reservations, even if they are not included to ensure a table.

We normally would include at least 3 dinners in a tour. You may like to try a full tasting menu at one restaurant and then order a shorter menu at another. Your preferences would be carefully considered and it would be expecially important to know in advance if there are any vegetarians, food allergies, dislikes, etc. in order to make the reservations.

The final price of this tour would be determined by the restaurants and menus you choose, the whole table must order the same menu (for example a tasting menu).

As for accommodation, we stay at very nice 4 star hotels in the center of town so you can easily walk around the city.
